The Lie is a new feature-length documentary which looks into the shocking murder of 21-year-old British backpacker Grace Millane by Jesse Kempson. It examines the rough sex defence used at Kempson's trial.

The film was directed by Helena Coan (Audrey, Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story), created with permission from the Millane family, and will be released in cinemas around the motu on 25 April 2024.

Susie Ferguson interviewed Helena Coan and DI Scott Beard, who led the investigation, on RNZ earlier this week.
