You can join the MEDSAC community as an affiliate or associate depending on your professional role and your level of involvement in clinical practice, MEDSAC training, and the accreditation process.

Categories and benefits

Joining the MEDSAC community is free for people based in Aotearoa New Zealand, and $160 per year (with no added GST) for international associates.

Affiliate and associate criteria

Clinician SAATS/NFSSAS

Affiliate

This category is for registered clinicians (doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses) who:

  • work within a SAATS or NFSSAS service in Aotearoa New Zealand

  • fulfil the requirements in accordance with the Affiliates and Associates Policy.

Thi includes doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, paediatricians and Police Medical Officers (PMOs) on a SAATS and/or NFSSAS roster.


Non-clinician SAATS/NFSSAS

Associate

This category is for non-clinical professionals who:

  • work within a SAATS or NFSSAS service in Aotearoa New Zealand

  • fulfil the requirements in accordance with the Affiliates and Associates Policy.


Community 

Associate

This category is available to clinical and non-clinical professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand who:

  • don’t work within a SAATS or NFSSAS

  • have a particular interest in the delivery of forensic and/or medical services in the area of sexual assault medicine

  • fulfil the requirements in accordance with the Affiliates and Associates Policy.

Clinician: Emergency doctor, general practitioner, nurse practitioner, nurse.

Non clinician: Crisis work, counsellor, psychologist, researcher, government department associate (Police, Health, ACC for example), retired clinician.


International 

Associate

This category is for clinical and non-clinical professionals abroad who:

  • don’t work within a SAATS or NFSSAS 

  • are delivering, or have a particular interest in the delivery of, forensic and/or medical services in the area of sexual assault medicine

  • fulfil the requirements in accordance with the Affiliates and Associates Policy.

Clinician: Forensic examiner, emergency doctor, general practitioner, nurse practitioner, nurse.

Non clinician: Crisis work, counsellor, psychologist, researcher, government department associate (Police, Health, ACC for example), retired clinician.


Police Medical Officer (PMO)

Associate

This category is for registered clinical professionals who:

  • aren’t working within a SAATS or NFSSAS

  • fulfil the requirements in accordance with the Affiliates and Associates Policy.

PMOs working in a SAATS or providing non-fatal strangulation and/or suffocation assessments for a NFSSAS meet the “Clinician – affiliate” criteria.


Forensic and Medical Sexual Assault Clinicians Australia (FAMSACA)

Associate

This category is available to existing members of FAMSACA. MEDSAC may, at its sole discretion, refuse any Licensee Members access.
